Ectocarpales

Family Scytosiphonaceae

Chnoospora J. Agardh

Thalli irregularly to dichotomously branched; structure solid, comprising medulla of large cells and cortex of small pigmented cells; hair tufts common.

Four species are currently recognized (Guiry & Guiry 2011); two are found on the south coast.

Key to species

1a. Thallus soft, forming tangled cushion	C. implexa
1b. Thallus firm, of tufts of uprights	C. minima
