Family Colaconemataceae
Colaconema dictyotae (Collins) I.-K.Hwang & H.-S.Kim 2011: 51, figs 38-40
Plants almost completely epiphytic, with creeping prostrate system of compact branched filaments bearing erect filaments. Erect filaments secundly to irregularly branched. Cells 12-18 µm in diameter and 25-50 (-60) µm long, narrower in laterals, each containing a single parietal chloroplast and 1-4 pyrenoids. Monosporangia ovate, 10-17 µm in diameter and 20-25 µm long when mature, usually sessile and solitary.
Collections, ecology and regional distribution
Recorded from Keurboomstrand and Natures Valley, on Dictyota sp. (31-32), but probably more widespread.
World distribution: Also recorded from California, China, Korea, Australia (Guiry & Guiry 2014).
Type locality: La Jolla, California (Womersley 1994).
