Gymnothamnion J. Agardh
Thalli with creeping and erect filaments, ecorticate, erect filaments arising from a short cell of creeping axis that also bears an attachment rhizoid. Cells uninucleate, apical cell transversely divided. Branching opposite-distichous. Sporangia single, terminal to subterminal. Three species and one variety are currently recognized (Guiry & Guiry 2015).
