Family Delesseriaceae

Papenfussia  Kylin

Plants foliaceous, growing from transversely divided apical cells; primary cell row with intercalary divisions. Thallus becoming polystromatic, in section showing regular horizontal and vertical cell rows; veins absent. Tetrasporangial sori and cystocarps scattered over the submarginal part of the thallus; carposporophytes with terminal carposporangia. This genus includes the South African species previously ascribed to Pollexfenia : for nomenclatural reasons they must be assigned to Papenfussia (Womersley 2003).
