Family Delesseriaceae

Papenfussia  Kylin

Plants foliaceous, growing from transversely divided apical cells; primary cell row with intercalary divisions. Thallus becoming polystromatic, in section showing regular horizontal and vertical cell rows; veins absent. Tetrasporangial sori and cystocarps scattered over the submarginal part of the thallus; carposporophytes with terminal carposporangia. This genus includes the South African species previously ascribed to Pollexfenia : for nomenclatural reasons they must be assigned to Papenfussia (Womersley 2003).

1a. Plants elongate, flabellate, up to 15 cm long	P. laciniata
1b. Plants with more or less circular outline, more or less incised, up to 3 cm tall	P. minuta
